The immediate vicinity boasts a mix of terrain, from big glacier runs and widely spaced tree skiing to long, classic runs and craggy peaks ideal for ski mountaineering. Having a guide is essential in order to maximize your time and ensure your backcountry adventure is equal parts safe and successful.
The hut is smaller than Icefall Lodge, sleeping only 7 guests plus a guide. Accommodations consist of a dorm-style loft and one common area with a wood-burning stove. Snowfall Lodge does not have electricity or running water. We collect water for cooking and cleaning from a nearby creek, and there is an outhouse for your convenience and comfort. Oh, and did we mention the wood-fired sauna?
Your guide for the trip is certified through the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG), the highest level of guiding available. The complex nature of the terrain makes the local expertise of a knowledgeable guide all the more important. They are familiar with the complex terrain at Snowfall and will get you the best skiing for your uphill effort. In addition to snowpack analysis and avalanche safety, your guide will be well trained in glacier travel and crevasse rescue. Safety is the primary concern, and a local’s knowledge of the terrain and conditions will ensure you make the most of your time at Snowfall. There will normally be 1 guide and a practicum student at the lodge for a full group.
